i think straight is not a big problem and you can try some haircuts that require straight hair like these

also, don’t worry about heavy hair and i think that’s a blessing! that means you can try lots more haircuts with different layers!!! I wish my hair could be thicker! if you cut it in the right shape it will never be dull ! volume can be added by simply using some hair products or gels like this

so go ahead for your new change! i’m not a professional and these are just my opinions … you can ask your hairstylist for more. i wish i can help anyway :)
